My wife Vickie started Rocking "M" Farm in 1984 on eighty acres just outside of Chandler, Oklahoma and entered the show ring in 1985 with her son James. Vickie and I married in 1992 and shared not only our love for each other but for the miniatures. We have worked steadily building our farm and now have about eighty head of quality horses.
Breeding
Vickie is the Captain, she worked as a veterinarian technician for 10 years and has a vast knowledge of animal husbandry. She established programs for the health and nutrition of our herd and handles all the breeding and grooming. Over the years she has developed a real knack for selecting what horses to breed together to produce our show winners.
Showing
James and I do the showing. We have shown several horses to Reserve National Champion and just last year I had the privilege of showing " Sundance Kid "and "Dazzling Doll" to win National Champions. Both of these horses were raised on the Rocking M Farm. We raise all of our show horses and sell most of our foals each year only keeping a couple for ourselves. We compete in our state fair each year and for the last 3 years, we have dominated the futurity. We show mainly in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and New Mexico.
Organizations
Vickie stays very active with the local organizations and has served as treasurer for two different clubs in the Oklahoma City area. We are currently members of the UNITED MINIATURE HORSE CLUB, which I am the president of for the year 2001 .
In closing, I would like to add that we compete mainly in the amateur part of the shows, as we do all of it ourselves with no outside trainers. Vickie maintains a very good report with several trainers and many times they will show one of our horses for us when we have several entries in the same show.
